In the dynamic realm of driving, staying "A Step Ahead" is crucial. Quick thinking and prompt responses are key to navigating the roads with confidence. Our certified instructors — recognized by the State of North Carolina — bring years of valuable driving experience, patience, and a friendly approach that meets each student at their unique skill level.
Book your course online or by phone. An invoice will be emailed to you after registration. We accept Cash, Debit, Credit, Zelle, Cashier's Checks, and Money Orders.
30 hours of virtual or in-person driver's ed covering all NC DMV rules, road signs, and safe driving practices. Includes eye/medical screening.
6 hours of hands-on driving with a certified ASA instructor, building real-world confidence and skills for every road scenario.
Upon completion, receive your Driver Education Certificate. Take it to the DMV with your Driving Eligibility Certificate to apply for your Level One Limited Learner Permit.
Book your road test through ASA (ages 16–17) with convenient 30-minute slots. Use your own vehicle or ours. We handle the paperwork and next steps.

Important Reminders: Driver's Eligibility Certificates expire 30 days after issuance. Replacement Certificates of Completion cost $25. You MUST have your own car insurance before heading to DMV for your road test — bring a physical copy. Study the DMV Handbook — all test questions are from there!
We welcome all ages! Teen driver's education is available for students as young as 14.5. Private driving lessons are open to all ages for one-on-one skill building or refreshers.
Yes! You can use your own vehicle or an ASA company vehicle for the road test. If using our vehicle, the cost is $349 for current students and $499 for non-students (includes a mandatory 2-hour private driving session).
A.S.A. will not refund any tuition once actual services have been rendered. If a contract is terminated early, only 50% of tuition monies paid will be refunded. We do not accept personal checks.

We primarily serve Charlotte, Concord, and Huntersville. We also cover Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Davidson, Cornelius, Cabarrus County, Union County, Iredell County, Gaston County, and Ballantyne areas with an additional $50 charge.
A Step Ahead Driving School cannot guarantee that all students who pass our course will pass the DMV exam or road test; however, we will do our best to provide each student with the necessary knowledge required by DMV. We strongly encourage studying the DMV Handbook — all test questions come from there!
