Our Story

Three Decades of
Changing Lives

Tyse Tutoring began in 1994 when Blair Tyse founded Minds In Motion SAT Prep in Cupertino, CA. With a BS in Physics and a minor in Aerospace Engineering, Blair's love for math and science quickly expanded into full academic support.

In 1996, Blair noticed some students simply couldn't improve their standardized test performance no matter the strategy. This led her to research visual processing issues and dyslexia — ultimately becoming certified in the Barton Reading Method, a research-based literacy intervention that helps students as young as 1st grade overcome reading challenges before they compound.

Now, over 30 years later, Tyse Tutoring is a full-service tutoring center in South Boulder, proudly serving students from grades K–12 and beyond, with services ranging from academic support to SAT/ACT prep to transformative literacy intervention.

Founder & Owner

Blair graduated with aerospace engineering and physics degrees in 1989 and has worked as a communications satellite engineer. After 30+ years of tutoring, her expertise spans SAT/ACT Test Prep, pre-algebra through calculus, and literacy intervention through Barton tutoring. She loves working with kids and teens — and genuinely enjoys doing math problems for fun.

Partner Tutor

Erik graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree in 1983 and designed battery energy systems for weather and communications satellites, including the International Space Station. He brings over 20 years of tutoring experience in SAT/ACT prep, IB/AP Chemistry, AB/BC Calculus, and AP Physics — and volunteers as a ski patroller and horse therapy aide.

Yes! We offer both in-person sessions at our South Boulder office (1295 South Broadway Suite D) and fully online tutoring via video. Many students and families find online sessions just as effective and more convenient.
We work with school-aged students from ages 6 to 22 — from 1st graders learning to read through college students needing academic support or test prep.
The Barton Reading and Spelling System is a structured, multi-sensory, research-based literacy intervention designed specifically for students with dyslexia or reading difficulties. It has been used successfully with students from 1st grade through adulthood. Blair has been trained and certified in the Barton Method since the late 1990s.
